Channel 4’s 4oD iPad app released, free for limited time
Get Channel 4’s excellent on demand service on your iPad via their new app - free for a ‘limited time’ so grab yours now from App Store.

Television, drug of the nation. Control your habit with Rowmote [iPhone/iPad]

For anyone that uses a mac/PC for their TV needs, here are two things well worth checking out.

Firstly a great tip (lifted from Lifehacker) on how you can use your mac as a PVR… ‘How to Automatically Download TV Shows as Soon as They’ve Aired (or Turn Your Mac/PC into a TiVo)’ - full info here.

Secondly - if like me you’re on the eternal quest to minimise the need for physical movement - then you need to check out Rowmote.

Rowmote is a simple app that allows you to use your iPhone as a remote control giving you control over a massive range of apps on your mac. Plus, with the upgrade to Rowmote Pro you get full trackpad and keyboard control too.

Works really well, reduces the need to move off the sofa, what’s not to like?

Rowmote for iPhone and iPad is 59p, Rowmote Pro for iPhone and iPad is £2.99 from app store.

My TV Remote (iPhone): This sounds kinda clever - Multi device TV Remote, with EPG (electronic program guide) so you can see what’s on, plus Facebook integration so it knows your fave TV shows and your friends fave TV shows.

My TV Remote is free on App Store / $9.99 in app purchase to get the infrared hardware.

Note: Only available in US App Store for US TV at the moment. Bring it to the UK soon please!

HD TV guide on iPhone

Freeview have released a Freeview HD TV Guide for the iPhone, to go with the roll out of their HD service. The app gives listings info for all three HD channels (BBC HD, ITV HD and 4 HD) as well as all the other regular Freeview channels.

This app is particularly useful if, like me, you have a separate set top box (e.g. Freesat HD) that you only use for watching the odd HD program - it’ll save you having to boot up the HD box just to see HD listing info.

Freeview HD TV Guide is free from App Store.

Stream TV to your iPhone with TVCatchUp

TVCatchUp lets you watch TV on your iPhone for free. Not strictly an app - all you need to do to get TVCatchUp is point your iPhone browser to http://iphone.tvcatchup.com … then you can add a permanent icon to your iPhone for easy access in future by clicking the ‘+’ button on your browser and selecting ‘Add to Home Screen’.

The number of channels available is continually growing, but you can already get all the obvious channels plus things like Film4, E4, Fiver, ITV2 and the +1 channels (e.g. E4+1, etc).

Sky Mobile

Watch Sky Sports channels on your iPhone (inc. all Sky Sports channels and ESPN too). £6 a month. Might seem a lot for sports on a small screen, but if (like me) your iPhone is jailbroken, use it with TV Out Landscape to pipe it onto your TV set… and voila, all Sky Sports channels on your TV for £6 a month. Lovely. Picture quality can vary, but definitely watchable.

Sky Mobile is free on the App Store
